Public Statement: Huntsman Corporation Styrenics Operations Closure

8th September 2009

Industry is deeply saddened by the announcement today of the closure of the Huntsman Styrenics Operations at West Footscray.

Plastics and Chemicals Industries Association Chief Executive, Margaret Donnan, said today that ‘the announcement is a stark reminder of the cost and demand pressures facing the sector in light of the global economic downturn’.

Ms Donnan said it ‘highlights the need for government and industry to continue to work together in partnership to reduce regulatory costs, support investment and promote competitiveness’.

Ms Donnan also said ‘the chemicals and plastics industry in Australia is resilient and remains in a strong position from which to deliver innovative products and solutions into the future’.
