PACIA partners with Monash University on Green Chemistry

The Plastics and Chemicals Industries Association (PACIA) has partnered with Monash University to establish Australia as a leader in Green Chemistry.

The announcement today by the Deputy Prime Minister, Julia Gillard, of funding towards the new Green Chemistry Futures facility at Monash University recognises the strategic importance of the $32bn chemicals and plastics sector in this country.

The partnership also recognises the value of PACIA’s Sustainability Leadership Framework, launched in 2008, in positioning the sector as a solutions provider.

PACIA Chief Executive, Margaret Donnan, said “PACIA is very pleased to be working with Monash University on a project of such strategic importance. The chemicals and plastics industry with its strong sustainability focus is ideally positioned to assist in creating a world class Green Chemistry program and applying this to sustainable manufacturing processes and skilled workforces in the Australian industry.”

Monash University’s Green Chemistry Futures will partner with PACIA, CSIRO and the Victorian EPA, in addition to a number of national and international institutions, including Yale University (USA), Waseda University (Japan) and the Indian Institute of Technology Bombay (India).
