Health and safety is a key element in creating a more sustainable industry and is consistent with PACIA’s Sustainability Leadership Framework, which describes a vision for the industry and its role in a sustainable society. Health and safety is one of the priority areas with the agreed goal of an industry where people are safe and free of injury and disease.
The PACIA Member Survey Health and Safety Survey comprises workplace injuries, site incidents, transport incidents and OHS initiatives, collected in a single report. The PACIA Health and Safety Performance Report for 2008 now incorporates the chemicals and the plastics sectors into a single report, which provides a template for future industry reporting of other sustainability priority areas.
The Health and Safety Performance report provides:
- Separate sector and consolidated information on the OHS performance of surveyed members
- Comparison of industry sector performance against the national targets for injury reduction
- A benchmark report which enables individual companies to assess their H&S performance against their peers
- A summary of OHS improvements and achievements by members
A key measure in the report is the Lost Time Injury Frequency Rate (LTIFR) on a 5 year rolling average, which is measured against the National Injury Reduction Target set for the industry in the National OHS Strategy.
